What is Grounding & Why I Started Earthing daily after my Digital Work in my Home Office
There were many reasons I started earthing and I wanted to explore more about what grounding is when I came across it in my research.
After writing about digital minimalism and how to become a smart digital minimalist, I was experimenting with different life hacks I found almost daily.
My last article explained the 6 things I do daily in the morning to supercharge my mind and body. I recommend you read it if you haven’t had a chance yet.
First, I heard about grounding techniques in the book Boundless by Ben Greenfield.
Because the grounding movie called The Earthing Movie – The Remarkable Science of Grounding is mentioned in the book, I watched the documentary and immediately went out in the snow and grounded myself.
It felt great even though it was tough to walk in my garden covered with snow in minus temperatures. I like doing things that are tougher for the body and mind and I managed to push myself to walk for 5 minutes in the snow.
What is Grounding?
Read about grounding at https://www.healthline.com/health/grounding so you know what it is and then watch the documentary to understand it better.
I will let you read and watch the documentary so you will see the science behind it and start grounding yourself to see if you feel any positive effect in your body and mind.
Why do I do Earthing?
There are many reasons for it and the best thing I have taken away is to connect with the earth’s magnetic fields. But it offers many more health benefits according to research that has revealed that “electrically conductive contact of the human body with the surface of the Earth (grounding or earthing) produces intriguing effects on physiology and health. Such effects relate to inflammation, immune responses, wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases”. You can read the whole report here.
My biggest interest is in keeping my body and mind balanced and the findings of this research indicate that earthing and grounding “appears to improve sleep, normalize the day-night cortisol rhythm, reduce pain, reduce stress, shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic toward parasympathetic activation, increase heart rate variability, speed wound healing, and reduce blood viscosity”.
I can see why it is important for us to start grounding and connect to the earth according to those findings. And why it is especially important for people working in the virtual world rather than the real world, losing this close connection with the earth most of the time compared to construction workers or gardeners for example.
Do you remember how you feel when you walk barefoot on the beach? – Feels good right? And how often do you get to do it?
After watching the grounding documentary, I started to take conscious action to daily ground myself by going barefoot.
I cycle to the beach in Essex where I live and walk barefoot and that’s the best way to be more grounded and connect your entire body with the earth.
There is a power and energy in this earth and the documentary shows it all.

Now you see why it is important to practice grounding daily and how it can help you.
If you are also a digital entrepreneur working from home or living as a digital nomad, you can try this out.
I can say from my experience it feels great and if you have any kind of inflammation in your body it could be reduced.
I am still new to this concept of grounding, but I would like to hear from you what you think and if you have started doing it.
This year I have started to explore more things on how to optimize life and supercharge the brain and body. I want to know how to achieve superhuman standards and recover from any adverse effects of the digital nomad lifestyle. We work all day in front of a PC and use digital devices frequently. So, there are certain things we must know to be healthy and happy.
